Take A Break

If you’re new to the blog, I want to thank you for stopping by NRJS. But I also apologize for stepping away from the blogging scene (temporarily). If you’re an avid reader, I truly thank you for your support, but also apologize for this hiatus. So much has happened in the past few months, and I need to take some time to nurture these areas of my life. I will continue to read your posts, and follow you via social media.

You can stay connected with me on Instagram @norulejuststyle. See you later!!!

EDITOR’S INSIGHT| Hair Care Regimen

Hair Regimen

Tyke Photography

Daily hair care is not always an easy task. But creating a regimen can help encourage hair growth and maintain healthy hair. This month I’m sharing my hair care regimen that helped restore my hair. Keep in mind that everyone has different textures, so you may have to modify your routine.

SHAMPOO: Although there are recommendations to wash your hair every three days, I opt for a more feasible routine- once a week. I stay away from products that contain sulfate, polyethelyne glycol, alcohol, propylene glycol, and petroleum/mineral oil. I search for hydrating shampoos, which leave my hair and scalp moisturized. Tip: Give your head a massage (with your fingertips- not your nails) while washing your hair. Massaging your head in circular motions can help detoxify the scalp and boost blood circulation.

CONDITION: I use a conditioner (weekly) that stimulates the scalp to help my hair grow. I look for conditioners that include ingredients such as coconut oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, and menthol. The conditioner is applied from my roots to the tip of my hair. Depending on the amount of time I have, I’ll leave the conditioner in for 10 to 25 minutes, covered with a plastic cap. However, if you own a hooded dryer, that works as well. Tip: I rinse out the conditioner with cool water to close my pores, and lock in condition agents.

MOISTURIZE:  I apply hair lotion to the ends of my hair daily. I’ve abstained from greasing my scalp (usually related to ethnic hair) because it can clog your hair follicles. As a result, existing scalp conditions can worsen. By using the hydrating shampoo and conditioner, my scalp can absorb moisture.

STYLING: I use a flat iron two to three times a week (not consecutive days), depending on the cooperation of my hair. However, it is recommended to use a flat/curling iron once/twice a week.

DIET: How we treat our bodies from the inside effects the health of our hair. Our eating habits are just as important (if not more) as the products we put on our hair. Eating healthy food can help hair follicles grow, and maintain healthy hair. In addition to juicing (see article here), my weekly diet includes foods with biotin, iron, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids (ex: salmon).

I want to thank you for stopping by NRJS, and I’ll see you next time!

CATCHING UP WITH MAJA @ My Cosmo Soul

Maja

Modern day glamour. Old Hollywood meets a new era. These are the thoughts that streamed through my mind when I crossed paths with Maja of My Cosmo Soul. During this interview, Maja shared some insight on creativity, and the importance of spontaneity. Trust me; she’s one to watch! Read on as I catch up with Maja of My Cosmo Soul!

What are your plans for My Cosmo Soul two years from now? To be absolutely honest, I could only wish for a successful blog that is noticed in this electronic era. I said “wish for” because I think that these things cannot be planned. Every word must come spontaneously from the heart.

Did you encounter any difficulties when you first started blogging? Well, as we all know sometimes there is a writer’s block, and you just can’t do anything about it. You just want to share your thoughts and your creative photo work, but it won’t blend in one seamless post. Instead, you get fragments, little bits and pieces of this and that, and at that moment you realize that it’s not going to happen, that you need a break. These are the moments when I seek refuge in nature to regroup and to regenerate my body and mind.

Who or what has influenced your style the most (present day)? “…My style is a mixology of everything and everyone. I see inspiration everywhere (other bloggers, fashion designers, etc.) and then mix and match everything with my current mood and make something unique.”

You’ve mentioned you and your husband’s appreciation for photography. What is a cliché in photography you try to steer away from? This may sound strange, but simply put, we are trying to steer away from mediocrity in any way or form. When we do our creative work we give 100% and we are ready to go that extra mile for results.

Vintage or new? Vintage

Heels or flats? Heels

What’s your top two wardrobe staples for summer? Floral wedges and denim cutoff shorts.

Favorite social media platform? Polyvore. Because you are welcomed to bring out your creativity in any visual style, from interiors to top fashion.

One beauty product you can’t live without? Face moisturizing cream.

You shared a post that captured the beauty of Dubai. What’s another place you wish to visit? Crystal clear water, surreal scenery, wildlife, exotic food, and culture – in one word Thailand.

The “Bohemian Crusaderspost had amazing content. When working on a post, how much of it is planned, and how much of it is instinctual? Our posts always start as planned projects, but then there is an interesting twist. When we come to the designated place, our imagination and instincts kick in, and the final product you see is something…honest and true. I can easily say that everything we do is 90% instinctual and spontaneous, and the other 10% is just basic planning.

What is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion/style blogger? My greatest satisfaction comes from the idea that I can share my personal style and my thoughts to a…wide audience through photos and inspiring texts.

Maja, it was an honor working with you. You have a unique style that has given me a greater appreciation for photography. Your style is unmatched, and I’m looking forward to seeing what will become of My Cosmo Soul in years to come.

EDITOR’S INSIGHT| Celebrating Style Bloggers

Editors Insight 042016Like many others, when I started my first blog (in 2011), it was a way to express my feelings be it out of frustration, happiness, or concern. Then years later, I created No Rule, Just Style (Thank you WordPress) for the same reason, but a different spectrum- fashion. I grew tired of people telling me what trend was “in” and what was not considered fashionable. So it fueled me to express myself unapologetically. This post is not meant to bash anyone. This post is my way of thanking and celebrating those whom I’ve had the honor of meeting (and those whom I’ve yet to meet) through the blogging community.

No Rule, Just Style is a platform I use to share what inspires me and hopefully give others the courage to embrace their style- whether or not it’s “acceptable” in the eyes of society. What I’ve learned over the years is that:

(1)   Some people are unable to embrace diverse styles.

(2)   Some people lack the courage to be different.

(3)   Some people just HATE for no valid reason.

Whatever the reason, never let anyone dictate your style (with the exception of dress codes in the workplace & schools). So here’s to the ladies and gentlemen who want to wear the same color religiously, who dare to wear garments that are not trendy, who refuse to be kept in a box, and who just don’t give a da** about other people’s unsolicited opinions. I commend you for staying true to yourself!

I sincerely thank you for your continued support and honest comments throughout the years. See you next time!
