BLOG SESSION: Engagement

Blog Session EngageTyke Photography

If you’re new to the world of blogging, chances are very few readers know who you are. Assuming you haven’t notified everyone you know (which isn’t a bad idea), your first post may go unnoticed. If your post was as successful as Aimee of Song of Style, then congratulations! Unfortunately, the rest of us may not be as lucky. Keep in mind if you’re starting a blog for the sole purpose of having millions of readers, you may want to reevaluate your intentions. Although having a large audience is great (can’t deny that), it’s important to stay true to yourself, which will reflect in your posts. If they like it, they will come. Below are a few tips that can help you gain new readers.

Comments: Commenting on someone else’s post is one way to engage regularly on blogs. Making genuine comments can help attract readers to your blog, as well as build relationships (personal and business). Additionally, the author of the blog will most likely respond to your comment, leading to an ongoing conversation; this depends upon the comment that is made. Leaving a comment such as “nice post” or “love the outfit” may not offer much value. You may get a “thank you” response or no response at all. Leaving a more engaging comment may get you a reciprocal response.

Respond: If your blog has a massive following, it will be challenging to respond to everyone. However, if your blog is fairly new, now is the time to be socially active. Responding to comments on your blog assures readers that you are listening and care about their input. Furthermore, it can lead to repeat visits.

Reply to the Commenter(s): You’d be amazed at the amount of blogs you can come across just by replying to other commenters. Responding to other readers will expose you to like-minded individuals or give you the opportunity to learn from those with opposing views.

Blog Events: The more blog events you’re exposed to, the more contacts you’ll make. Check local newspaper listings for events or sign-up for newsletters and groups to get alerts about upcoming events.

I hope everyone is enjoying their week so far. As always, thank you for stopping by NRJS! See you next post!

XOXO,

  1. great tips! I guess I’ve been doing it wrong by just posting, but no engagement. so here I am trying to follow your tip 🙂 have a wonderful day!

  2. I do not take replying to comments for guaranteed, if they took the time to leave a comment, it is good to reply them at least till one has millions of comments and can’t reply all. To me, it is the best way to connect. Very good points. Thanks for sharing!

  3. These are great thoughts on blog engagement! I agree with you, you really have to set your motives right from the get-go. For me when I started my blog I really wanted to create an interactive platform for the exchange of ideas related to fashion, lifestyle, beauty and travel, and it’s very rewarding to learn from others and build a community there on after. And yes I agree blog events are just as integral in building relationships as the virtual world!! Thanks for the share dear! xo~ Lena

    • @Lena,
Thank you doll! Love your responses! Glad you enjoyed the post! I’m definitely going to be more involved with blog events. My area is so limited, so I’ll have to branch out in other areas. Hope you had a great day!! xx
